Guatemala City, July 3 (EFE) A man who raped his nine-year-old daughter was lynched and burnt alive by a mob in the Guatemalan town of San Juan Sacatepequez, the police said.
Some 200 people responded to a call for help from the girl’s younger brother while Samuel Cotzajay Cubule, 52, was sexually abusing her, the police said.
The mob went to Cotzajay’s house, catching him in the act. He tried to run away but was caught, tied up, beaten, doused with petrol and burned alive.
Firefighters took the girl to Guatemala City’s Roosevelt Hospital.
Guatemala has experienced more than 300 fatal lynchings since 1996 and human rights activists documented more than 100 instances of vigilante justice in the country last year, resulting in 22 deaths.
At least 48 lynchings have occurred in Guatemala so far in 2009.
