Vancouver, Feb 9 (DPA) Iranian alpine skier Marjan Kalhor will carry her country’s flag at the opening ceremony of the winter Games in Vancouver, organising officials said.
Kalhor will be the first woman to represent Iran at the winter Olympics, competing in the slalom and giant slalom races.
She finished 60th in the giant slalom at the 2009 world championships at Val d’Isere, France.
Under the strict dress code in force in the Islamic Republic, Kalhor will wear a headscarf under her helmet.
“Skiing is a sport where you have to be fully dressed. So there is no problem with clothes. I shall observe the Islamic dress code,” she was quoted as saying in Iranian media.
Two other Iranian skiers, the brothers Pourya and Hossein Saveh-Shemshaki, will also be at the Games.
