New Delhi, Feb 8 (Inditop.com) With Valentine’s Day only a week away, India’s largest card chain has designed special V-Day cards for gay community.
The Archies card company has rolled out five special designs, as part of its V-Day offering that has a total of 187 designs. All of them will be available across all stores in the country.
“This was not a master stroke. We were toying with this idea for a long time. These cards are very common in the US and Britain but not in India because the concept had not been accepted till Article 377 was passed by the Delhi High Court,” Youhan Aria, Archies head of corporate communication, told Inditop here.
“We were very much surprised when this judgment was passed because till then the sex between consenting adults was kept under the wraps,” he added.
Explaining the special designs for gay cards, Aria said two cards for gay partners depict two boys holding hands. The lesbian version it has two girls holding hands and the message on the inside leaf reads – “For my girl friend from your girl friend”.
The only gender-neutral card has a gay character on it and these cards are priced at Rs.45 each.
According to Aria, the company is not looking for any profit making from these cards.
“It is just a trial. We want to see how they will be received by people,” explained Aria.
