Chandigarh, Dec 2 (Inditop) Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty surrendered before a court here Tuesday in a case relating to a dishonoured cheque and was immediately granted bail.The actor surrendered before the court Tuesday evening after non-bailable warrants were issued against him Nov 19. He furnished two bail bonds of Rs.50,000 each to secure bail.He has been asked to again appear before the court Dec 23.
The case against Shetty was filed by businessman Subhash Gulati, owner of a well-known shop, Empire Stores, in Sector 17 here.
Gulati alleged that a cheque of Rs.1 million issued by Hyundai India Telecom Limited, a company in which Shetty was a director, in 2005 had bounced due to insufficient funds.
The company was to supply mobile handsets and Shetty was one of its directors at the launch of the company in 2004, Gulati claimed.
Shetty’s plea for personal exemption from court hearing was rejected by the court.
The actor had earlier got proceedings of the trial court stayed by the Punjab and Haryana high court. The stay, however, was vacated later by the high court and it asked Shetty to appear before the trial court.
